Highlighting Shadows: for Shadow Shot Sunday

For a brief few moments, the brilliant light from the setting sun drove away the darkening shadows of approaching evening and highlighted the trees and woods around my yard with gold!

My appreciative thanks to Tracey, at Hey Harriet, the host of Shadow Shot Sunday for this interesting idea; for more information on this shadow meme, please click on the icon in the side bar.

Metal ::: for Photo Hunter

Having checked out this week's prompt for Photo Hunter and discovering that it was metal, I was on the look out for something made of metal while we were out driving today looking for hawks and geese. I found this wire fence, made of metal, surrounded by drying November grasses, and I thought it would be a rather interesting choice.

We had been quite successful in our hunt for hawks by finding a Northern Harrier and a Rough-legged Hawk, and also had located a large flock of Canada Geese; so we feeling pretty happy!

However on our way home our luck changed. Suddenly, hearing a loud 'clunk, clunk, clunk', as we were driving down the street we immediately stopped and found a big metal bolt, attached to a piece of metal strapping, stuck in our tire! And here was the result!Well, hey, it was another opportunity to take a picture of something metal, and Roadside Assistance was very friendly and efficient, and in no time we were on our way home again. Not quite the sort of metal pictures I had planned, but it was a good day, all in all.

A Winter Memory: for One Single Impression

piecing together
computerized visual art
fragments from my mind

Remembering the brief rapture of stolen moments
between after school chores and suppertime

cold wind on my face
exhilaration of speed
sliding memories

rushing headlong, down the snowy hill
climbing up again, only to fly downward once more
each time the upward climb becoming slower and s l o w e r

then the call to supper

with red rosy cheeks and chaffed wrists
from snow clotted mittens
we would rush indoors to the parlor wood stove
remove our felts from snow clogged boots
and hang our melton snow pants nearby to dry
in readiness for another winter's day

These lines were created in response to the words, 'childhood memories', which is this week's prompt at One Single Impression. For more poetry on this theme please visit the hosting site.
